Yosemite Water Is Great For Rafting!

Grab a tube, raft or boat and float the Merced River in Yosemite Water. This is one of the best ways to relax and have fun at the same time! We do this every July 4th weekend! Without a doubt this is our favorite of the Yosemite national park activities to do as a group. It works for the young to the old.

All rafting in Yosemite National Park is on calm water. White water rafting is done in a couple of places outside of Yosemite.

Whenever we ask what things we should do in Yosemite...floating the river gets 100% of the votes! We often float the Merced river waters twice on each of our summer visits. You may bring your own inner tubes, rafts or boats to use or you may rent a boat at Curry Village.

You must wear life jackets while on the river. If you rent a boat at Curry Village, life jackets come with the boat that they rent to you. A child must be at least 50 pounds to rent from Curry (and yes, they have a scale to weigh your children) If you go on your own raft, you may take any child of any weight. In other words there is no weight requirement for children with your own raft.

If you rent a raft at Curry Village, know that their rafts hold 4-6 adults. Each raft comes with two ores. Raft rentals cost $33.00 per adult and $16.00 per child ages 12 and under. You are allowed raft from 10am till 4pm.

You start your trip off by the bridge at Curry Village. The staff at Curry Village stops you three miles down the river and puts you and your boat on a bus. They bus you back to Curry Village.

If you come with your own raft, stop rafting at the sandy beach near the lodge. Let the air out of your raft and walk a short distance to the free shuttle bus at Camp 4 (near the Yosemite Lodge). Use the free shuttle to get back to wherever you are staying.

You can spend anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours of your day relaxing on the river. We pack snacks and a lunch to take with us. You may stop anywhere along the river and play in the water, on the beach or the shore.

Whitewater Rafting On The Merced River Just A Few Miles Outside the Park

Rafting in Yosemite water is done from May through July here in Yosemite. Before May, the water level is to high and from August on the water is to low.
