Yosemite Park Horseback Riding Yosemite Park has three stables that offer horseback riding. You may ride to the top of a waterfall! Or ride to just below the cables of Half Dome. There are many scenic rides throughout Yosemite and the surrounding area to choose from. Yosemite has a horse stable down in the valley and up in Tuolumne Meadows and in Wawona. You will have breath taking scenery as you are guided on a Yosemite horseback riding excursion. Yosemite uses horses and mules for their rides. The mules have great footing for the rocky and sandy trails. Mules have a better temperment than horses. They will match the rider to the animal, you don't pick what you want to ride. They tend to use more of the mules in the valley and the horses in Tuolumne and at Wawona. There are several rides that are available for you to enjoy. You may ride for two hours, four hours or all day long.

On a personal note... Yosemite Park really wants their animals to be back at the stables by 5 pm. We had 30 minutes to do our little bit of walking and then climb the cables. My husband ran! He had all of 1 minute on top of Half Dome and then returned to the horses. No one else had enough time. So...if you know this...enjoy the beautiful scenic ride, the smell of the trees but don't expect to get to the top of Half-Dome on the full day ride.
