Yosemite Nevada Falls

Yosemite Nevada Falls is 1.5 miles above Vernal Falls. This waterfall is 594 feet tall. The water thunders down and over a sheer granite wall. This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the world. And it is a trail that kids and adults alike can conquer.

In the spring all the waterfalls in Yosemite run full force and thunder over the cliffs to the rocks below. By late fall most of the falls are a trickle of water. But this waterfall goes strong all year long! This fall is fed by the snowfields up in these high Sierra Mountains.

The word Nevada means snowy in Spanish. This Yosemite waterfall was named Nevada Falls because the water falling from it comes from snowy mountains and looks like an avalanche of snow when you look at it.

If you start hiking at Happy Isles, in the valley it is 3.5 miles to the top. Give yourself 5 to 6 hours to make it to the top. You must hike to see this waterfall or else drive to Glacier Point to see it. You will not see it from the valley floor.

Another way to get to the top is to start your hike from Glacier Point. You can drive to Glacier Point and walk down and over on the Panorama Trail. This hike allows you to go down hill about 3/4 of the time. You are starting out higher than the falls. You walk down to the waterfalls. By starting your walk from Glacier Point, you will get to see another waterfall...Illilouette Falls! This waterfall is not seen from the valley floor. I have done this hike twice and it takes 10-12 hours.

I think it is easier than starting at Happy Isles and going straight up and it has more scenic views of the valley. When you are heading back, do not go the same way that you came! Just follow signs down to Happy Isles, it is shorter and down hill! If you want to go this route, you need someone in your party to drive you up to Glacier Point to get your started. There is no shuttle bus to take you up to Glacier Point. This is one of the many beautiful waterfalls in Yosemite.

If you are going to come all the way here and hike Yosemite Nevada falls, then bring a great camera and extra batteries!!!
