Snow Creek Is Steepest Of Yosemite Hiking Trails

Snow Creek has the steepest grade (20%) of all the Yosemite hiking trails. Start at Tenaya Lake and end up at Mirror Lake in the valley. This is a good hike that is 12.6 miles long. The trailhead is along Tioga Road just past the May Lake turnoff and west of the Tenaya Lake trailhead parking area. Not many people take this trail so if you like to be on a quite trail with beautiful views, this hike is for you! There are 108 switchbacks that take you on a 2,500 foot elevation drop into Snow Creek Canyon. This trail is strenuous but gives you breath taking views of Clouds Rest, Half Dome and Tenaya Creek. You can even hike up to snow creek from Mirror Lake. You can stay in a cabin there and have a piece of Yosemite completely to yourself. Stay a couple of days and make the cabin you base camp. Enjoy the star filled night as you stargaze in the evenings. A backpackers dream! Most people who visit Yosemite National Park, never see anything beyond the valley floor. This upper part of Yosemite is worth the effort that it takes to get here. This is the kind of hike that makes memories. This is the kind of hike that had John Muir fall in love with the great outdoors.
