We were very concerned about your father\ grand- father during the time we were in Yosemite. Several "campers" from the Manzinita Lodge were watching for his safe return at the common area near the pool. We (our family) prayed for his saftey that night. We believe he is " in a better place" as you do.
Yosemite is so wonderful, but more rugged than we would expect. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family. We pray that you take comfort in the fact that he loved Yosemite & and came there often: This was our first time & will ever be imprinted on our hearts.
We hope to visit Yosemite more, as he did. As John Muir said, "Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, overcivilized people are beginning to to find out out that going to the mountains IS going home...."

father by: KIS
Thank you all for your concern regarding my father, I was not with him and the rest of the family at this trip. It was a yearly trip we always took, my father loved Yosemite. It was the first time he had gone to this area. We miss him. He was a great father and grandfather. He is with God now.

A Thanks! by: joanna fromn oklahoma
Thanks for the information from all those who left information about the lost hiker from July 16-17 at Yosemite Falls. We were wondering what the outcome was, due to we had to depart when the rescue helicopter was still surveying the situation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Yosemite is a wonderful place and still very wild, may we all respect that.

Hiker Did Not Make It by: Dov From YNP
The hiker that you are asking about was found the same day that you saw the helicopter flying. Unfortunately, he was not found alive. It
appears as though he fell while trying to descend the ledge system to get back onto the trail.
Please hike safely.
Best,
Dov

Hiker Has Been Found Dead by: Kathy Medina
New information has been found that this hiker was found and did not survive. A reminder to all of us that even though Yosemite National Park is beautiful, it can be dangerous.
Yosemite National Parks Search and Rescue Team are good men and women. Trained to help those who tackel more than they can handle.
Please prepare yourself if you are coming to Yosemite to hike, backpack or venture out into the wilderness or onto the cold rivers.
Our prayers go out to the family that has lost one of their own.

Hiker Falls To Death From Park Cliff
Park dispatch received a 911 call from a hiker at Columbia Point last Friday, reporting a stranded hiker on a cliff band above the Upper Yosemite Fall trail.
Rangers spotted the man moving around on a tree-covered ledge. Using a loudspeaker, they told him to sit in a safe location and wait for the rescue team to reach him. He retreated from the ledge into the trees. A technical team climbed to his location, but was unable to find the man or make voice contact with him.
They found the area to be extremely hazardous, with debris-covered ledges separated by steep cliff faces and gullies. The areas was searched until darkness without success.
The next morning, a woman contacted the park and reported that her 61-year-old father had been missing since Friday afternoon and that he might have been hiking in the Yosemite Falls area. The park helicopter re-searched the area. The mans body was found near the base of one of the cliffs in late morning.
A technical team climbed to the location and confirmed that he was dead. The body was extricated via long line and taken to Ahwahnee Meadow. [Submitted by Ed Dunlavey, Law Enforcement Office]

Hiker Is Safe by: Kathy Medina
Hi Joanna, I contacted Yosemite Search and Rescue. It appears that the lost hiker was found and without injury. They keep records of fatalities and injuries. They have no fatalities recorded for July 16th or 17th.
They had a man fall over Chilnuala Falls on July 16th and they were able to save the man.
They will send out a search and rescue for a missing hiker but only report it if there is an injury or death. Since it was not report when I talked with them, it appears they found the hiker safe and sound.
Hope this helps you to end your vacation on a good note!
