Utah National Parks

There are five Utah National Parks. They are: Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion. Arches NP has more than 2,000 all natural sandstone arches. Ice, water, wind and sand worked together and overtime these arches were made. Some of the arches are so wide and tall that they seem to defy gravity.

Arches National Park is a relatively small national park that sits on just more than 76,000 acres. This is a high desert area that once was under the ocean. A large natural salt bed lies just beneath this US National Park. The beautiful La Sal Mountains provides a nice backdrop to Arches National Park. This US National Park is located in the southeastern part of Utah. Just outside the city of Moab.

This park is very well laid out. There is a 41 mile paved road that takes you to each of the major arches and sandstone formations. Just park your car and it's an easy short walk to be up and close to these beautiful formations. And if you are not up to walking, you can see the arches from your car in each parking lot.

The Landscape Arch is the longest free span arch in the world. From base to base, it is just over 300 feet. Quite an amazing thing to stand under.

Besides the sandstone arches there is spires, pinnacles, sandstone fins and balanced rocks to see once you are here. When the sunlight hits the beautiful red rock formations, it can cast yellow, white and orange colors on them. This national park has the greatest number of natural sandstone formations than any other place in the world.
