US Virgin Islands National Park

The US Virgin Islands National Park is absolutely beautiful! Located in the Caribbean Sea off of the state of Florida. Just 40 miles east of Puerto Rico and right in between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

There are hundreds of islands off of the coast of Florida. Only four of these islands make up the Virgin Islands. They are Saint Thomas, Saint Croix, Saint John and the Water Island.

There are two ways to get here. By sea planes and water ferries. The US Virgin Island National Park makes up most of Saint John and an island called, Hassel Island. Hassel Island used to be connected to Saint Thomas Island. Under the water there are huge mountain ranges and these islands are just the tips of the mountain ranges that lay below.

When you fly in you'll land on the bigger island of Saint Thomas and then take a four mile boat ferry to Saint John. Saint John Island is a small 20 mile square island. It is seven miles long and three miles wide. The highest point on the island is Bordequx Mountain at 1,277 feet tall.

This US National Park has some of the best beaches in the world. The water is a beautiful turquoise with hues of blues and greens. The sand is a silky white and the water is clear and warm. The bays are well protected and the marine life is some of the best you will ever encounter.

The weather is great year around but the best time to visit is anytime between December and April. There is so much to do once you are here. Snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, hiking, camping, photography, fishing, mountain biking, nature walks, sailing, boating, wind surfing and bird watching are favorite outdoor activities.

The US National Park is here to protect the beautiful coral reefs and the forested tropical island. The US Virgin Islands National Parks has some beautiful flowers and has some great marked hiking trails that are waiting to be explored.

Hikes are no more than a couple of miles each. You can take an easy hike, a moderate hike or a strenuous hike. There is a three hour hike worth taking called the Reef Bay Trail. You will see a waterfall, a reflection pool, an run down sugar mill and some beautiful petroglyphs rock carvings.

Be sure to bring your bug repellent because the tropics have there share of mosquito's! Always wear plenty of sunscreen while you are here.

Learn About Sunscreen

Visit and old sugar mill or go to any of the 18 white sand beaches on the island of Saint John. You must visit Trunk Bay. It is one of the Caribbeans most photographed beaches. A heart shaped white sand beach that has wonderful snorkeling. It even has an underwater snorkeling trail.

Not too many people get the chance to come here for a visit, so crowds are not a problem. Only 4,500 people live on the island of Saint John year around. The Us National Park has a great Visitors Center in Cruz Bay that is worth seeing.
