Fix A Sleeping Bag Zipper And Other Great Tips

Got a sleeping bag zipper problem? Below is a solution. Taking piles of blankets to spend the night on takes up way to much room when you go camping. Below are some good tips if your having a few minor problems with your bed roll. The more you know, the longer your bed roll will last you. And a good one can last you a lifetime if you take care of it.

Tip 1:
Since 40% of your body's heat loss can escape through your head, just wear a hat while you sleep.

Tip 2:
Put some WD-40 (a lubricate) on the sleeping bag zipper. This will allow the zipper to move easier.

Tip 3:
If your sleeping bag zipper is sticking because it's worn out or old, rub a No. 2 pencil along the teeth of the zipper. The graphite from the lead will smooth out the rough spots on the zipper.

Tip 4:
If you have a missing tooth on the zipper, it will cause the zipper to get stuck. To fix this, just run the zipper quickly over the area of the missing tooth. The momentum will help the zipper stay on track.

Tip 5:
If your camping in wet or damp places, get a bag that has a synthetic filling. These kinds of sleeping bags insulate well when they get wet. A down bag takes forever for all those feathers to dry out!

Tip 6:
When selecting a sleeping bag, don't judge it by how it looks. Since you will be sleeping in your sleeping bag, and not on top of it, look for a bag that will keep you warm and dry.

Tip 7:
Unroll your sleeping bag at least one hour before you go to bed. This will allow the insulation in the to expand. Expanded insulation will keep you warmer.

Tip 8:
Always follow the care instructions that come with your bag.

Tip 9:
Down bags should be dried thoroughly at a medium heat setting. Unlike synthetic fibers, which will not clump together while washing, down bags require the bag be pulled out during the drying process to break up wet clumps of down. Be careful when pulling clumps apart so the down is not damaged.

Tip 10:
Keep debris out of your tent. Always dust off your clothes and shoes before getting into your tent. If debris gets in your tent, it usually ends up in your sleeping bag. Put a mat at the door of your tent to wipe your feet.

Tip 11:
Using a sleeping bag liner has an added benefit other than just keeping you warm. It is a great way to keep your sleeping bag clean. Wash your liner when needed and not the sleeping bag. When its time to wash, wash the liner and not the sleeping bag.

Tip 12:
Put a tennis ball in the dryer when you dry your bag. The bouncing ball will help to keep the insulation from forming clumps.

Tip 13:
You can keep your clothes inside your bag while you sleep and your clothes will be warm in the morning.

Tip 14:
Use a thick pad under your sleeping bag. This helps to offset the cold coming from the ground. This keeps you warm and if your warm, you'll sleep better.
