Glacier Point In The FallMy husband and I have made reservations for the end of September 2011. Will we miss all of the waterfalls? Are there any advantages to coming that time of year?
Thanks!
See Kathy's Respons:Septemeber is a great time of year! You picked a great time to come to Yosemite. An advantage to coming to Yosemite in September is less crowds. With school back in session, you won't be caught in the crowds.
This year, the snowpack is 150% above normal. So that means incredible waterfalls. Some years,
Bridalveil Falls and
Yosemite Falls are dried up by September. I don't think they will be dried up in September because of the hard, long winter this year. It kind of depends on how the heat goes here this summer. If it's not a super hot summer, you'll see waterfalls when you come.
If you and your husband hike,
Vernals Falls will be worth the effort to go to. In fact, if you like to hike, all the trails should be open in September. The snow won't close trails by then.
September will be cooler weather, so plan on layering your clothes. Bring your
camera because the clouds that move over and through Yosemite are spectaular in September! If you have a car when your here, drive up to Tuolumne Meadows. You'll see some nice fall color changes there as well in the meadows in the valley.
The water in the Merced river will be nice in September. The cold weather will not be inviting to the mosquitos...huge plus for September visits! Walks along the river will be relaxing and peaceful. You should see plenty of deer in the meadows as well.
If we don't have an early winter, you'll enjoy
Glacier Point on your visit. The road to Glacier Point will be open unless we have tons of snow, which I doubt. Glacier Point could very well be a highlight on your trip. The
big trees should be open then as well, plan on seeing the big trees while your here.
Have a great trip to Yosemite! Stop back and share a favorite photo or two after your trip!
