Permits to climb Half Dome
 I waited until the absolute second to click on obtaining 2 permits to climb Half Dome, the exact time, and still all permits were already gone. Is there a secret to getting these permits when they open up? I love Yosemite and have an extreme craving to climb the dome! See Kathy's Reply: I have climbed Yosemite's Half Dome three times...and loved it every time! Is there a secret? Unfortunately, no. However...you can improve your odds of getting a permit if you choose a day that is not a weekend or holiday. When school is out for the summer, there is a holiday or its a weekend...I just forget about going to Yosemite. The crowds are just to many to really enjoy it anymore. If I were to go during these times, I would hit the trails. Especially those trails that are extremely popular. I think the two most popular hikes are Half Dome and Vernal Falls. Sounds to me like you did everything right. I think you just must have picked a weekend or a time school is out. Try again and pick a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday date.
