Panorama Trail In Yosemite

The Panorama Trail in Yosemite National Park walks you over three waterfalls in Yosemite. The view of Yosemite Valley is nothing short of spectacular. It can be done in one long day of hiking. A California hiking trail not to be missed! This is a Yosemite hiking trail that is great for adults and kids.

When your up at Glacier Point and you look over the gorge to the waterfalls...the Panorama trail takes you over to those waterfalls. To the top of them and down into Yosemite Valley.

Start this hike up at Glacier Point. You can have someone drive you up or pay a small fee and have the Yosemite tram take you up. This hike is 8.5 miles. It will take 8 to 10 hours to complete.

We started at 9:30 am and ended up back at Curry Village at 7:30 pm. We spent about one hour relaxing on top of each of the waterfalls. We were two women hiking with four kids ages 9, 12, 14 and 15 years old. Each of us made it with a few blisters and a whole lot of great memories and some fabulous hiking photos!

We hiked this trail on July 4th, 2009. There was no crowd on the trail until we hit Nevada and Vernal Falls. We felt like we had this hiking outdoor trail all to ourselves!

On this hike you will walk to the top of Illiloutte Falls, Nevada Falls and Vernal Falls. Most of the hike is downhill. We found the hiking on the dirt trail very enjoyable and relatively easy. Besides these three Yosemite waterfalls you will have views of the Merced river, Half Dome, Mount Broderick, the Royal Arches, North Dome, Yosemite Falls and a gorgeous view of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.

Illiloute Falls is sometimes called the "hidden falls" since it cannot be seen from Glacier Point or from the valley floor. About a mile and a half into the hike, Illiloutte Falls comes into view. Be careful, we saw a lot of poison oak along the trail.

The hardest part of the hike for us was from Nevada Falls to Vernal Falls. It is all downhill on steep steps and we were tired. Very hard on the knees. But the view made up for the shaky legs and we found the Panorama trail to be a superior hiking trail.

Glacier Point has an elevation of 7,200 feet and this Panorama trail takes you to Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley which is at 4,000 feet in elevation.
