National Parks Of Utah
Capitol Reef is just one of the five National Parks of Utah. Like the other US National Parks, that are in Utah, this place has unique sandstone formations and arches. The name Capitol Reef was chosen because many of the rock formations here look like the US Capitol building in Washington DC. The reef part of the word comes from the rocks here being a barrier.
This place is different for many reasons. The first being the beautiful slot canyons. A slot canyon is very narrow yet it has walls that are hundreds of feet tall. The slot canyon walls are beautiful in their colors, their waves and their very narrow openings.
These slot walls were formed by water rushing through the rock millions of years ago. These water carved ravines lead to waterfalls and pools.
The best slots require you to hike to them. There names are the Burro Wash, the Cottonwood Wash, the Five Mile Wash and the Grand Wash.
This is a great place to go hiking, camping and backpacking. There is a 100 mile paved road that will take you on a scenic drive throughout the park. Bring your camera because you will get some memorable pictures to take back with you.
There are campgrounds in the National Park if you bring a tent. There are no hotels in the park. The closest cities with hotels for lodging are: Torrey, Teasdale, Loa, Grover, Bicknell, Boulder and Caineville.
