Hot Springs National Parks In Arkansas
Hot Springs National Parks in Arkansas is located just west of the center of the state. This national park is well known for its hot mineral water. Water that is great tasting when you drink it and very good for your skin.
There are two kinds of rock here that act like sponges when they come in contact with the rain water. They are the Bigfork Chert rock and the Arkansas Novaculite rock.
When it rains, the water gets soaked up by the rocks. The rocks push the water down into the earth. Water travels anywhere from 2,000 feet to 8,000 feet beneath the surface. It stays underground for about a year. The earth heats up the water. The deeper the water goes, the hotter it gets.
The water resurfaces through the Hot Springs sandstone. The average temperature of the water when it resurfaces is 143 degrees fahrenheit. When the water is beneath the ground, it gets purfied and when it resurfaces, it now has theraputic properties.
