mosquitos or mud

by Annonymous

We want to visit in June or July. We want to avoid muddy trails and snow, but also want to avoid mosquitos. Any advice?

Hello future visitor to Yosemite,

Mosquitos are part of Yosemite's landscape in the hot summer months. The more spring runoff that we experience, the more mosquitos. We can't make them go away but we can be prepared!

Wear a mosquito repellent when you come. See my page on this by clicking here.

Wear long sleeves when you are here and that will help. Darker colors are less attractive to the mosquitos. Leave the perfume and hairspray at home as they attract the critters as well.

Mud and snow are not a problem in June and July in the valley. If you go to Tuolumne Meadows up above Yosemite, you may find a bit more mud and snow. But the higher altitude brings more mosquitos than the valley.

Don't let the mosquitos keep you away. Long sleeves and repellent will keep you safe. Pack a citrenella candle for you campsite and your good to come for a visit! Knowing this ahead of time allows you to come prepared!
