Yosemite's Lost Arrow Spire

Yosemite Lost Arrow Spire

Climbing the Lost Arrow Spire in Yosemite National Park is not for the faint of heart. It takes a pro athlete to cross the gorge. Oh, but the view is fabulous for those who go for it! This can be put on the list of extreme sports and an unbelievable rock climbing experience.

The first time a climber made it to the top of the tip was in 1946. The most number of people on the tip of the arrow is 24 people at one time. (I bet it was on a Memorial Day Weekend when the park is packed with people!) If you are floating the Merced River while in Yosemite Valley, look up to your right at Yosemite Falls. To the right of the falls is this spire.

Once you are at the top of Yosemite Falls you are less than a mile to Yosemite Point. This is the place that has a great view of the Lost Arrow Spire. The Arrow is a free standing piece of solid granite rock. It is for the pros of rock climbing. If your lucky, you will see a couple of people climbing...sit a spell and take some pictures!

There are several ways to enjoy and conquer this arrow. Me...I just enjoy the videos that everyone supplies for me! Hey, its a 3,000 foot drop to the valley floor.

The great thing about Yosemite National Park is that it can be enjoyed from the valley floor as well as from the top of the most amazing rock. The views can be appreciated by all of us who take the time to come and visit this National Park. Whether your in a meadow or on the tip of the arrow, solitude and inspiration can be found here.

John Muir said it best: "But no temple made with hands can compare with Yosemite. Every rock in its walls seems to glow with life...as if into this one mountain mansion Nature had gathered her choicest treasures..."
