Illilouette Fall

Illilouette Fall is sometimes called the "hidden falls". It is not seen from the valley floor. You can view it from Glacier Point and while hiking on a John Muir trail towards Vernal Falls.

This waterfall is 370 feet tall. The best time to hike Illilouette Fall is in the spring and early summer months. The hike is 4.2 miles round trip.

To get to this waterfall you need to drive to the top of Glacier Point and hike down to the fall. When you get to Glacier Point, walk toward the rim and you will see a trailhead sign on your right. This will be the trailhead for the Panorama hike.

A beautiful hike. A great hike to take the kids on because the walking trail is wide and you start off by walking down hill for about two miles. It is also a trail that is not usually crowed with hikers.

The first mile of your hike will be on switchback heading down hill. When you have gone about 1.3 miles, you will hear the waterfall. Shortly after you hear the falls, you will see a turnout on your left that will allow you to see the waterfall.

This lookout will give you the best view of the entire waterfall. Get out your camera and enjoy the view! This sweeping beauty and extraordinary natural waterfall is not seen up close and personal by many park visitors. A waterfall cut deep into the rocks. So deep this place is called 'Illilouette Gorge'. Because of the deep gorge you usually see parts of the waterfall instead of a full view of it.

Continue your hike until you come to the bridge that crosses the water flow. Here on the bridge is a beautiful show of cascading water. Take time to look for the rainbows that are often seen here.

If you don't want to hike this fall you can see the side view of waterfall while hiking on the Vernal Falls trail. (here is the picture that I took on the Vernal Falls trail) However, you cannot actually get to the waterfall from the Vernal Falls trail.

After seeing all that Yosemite National Park has to offer you'll agree with so many that Yosemite California is a place that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.
