Snow shoeing is a great low aerobic excerise. It works your arms, legs, heart...your entire body. It is fun, easy, inexpensive and gives you a great workout! No experience is necessary. You just do it!

You may come across cross country skiers while snowshoeing. Trail ediquette says skiers have the right of way on a trail. It is easier for someone on snowshoes to step aside than someone on skis. You can stay on an established trail or make your own...just have fun!

Here in Yosemite you can take guided snow shoe walks or explore any trail on your own. The road to the big trees in Mariposa Grove is closed for the winter...and perfect for a snowshoe walk. I have done this walk with my kids and it is a blast!

Walking to Dewey Point is a great snowshoe walk. You will enjoy some of Yosemite's most remarkable views in total solitude. A nice 7.2 round trip walk.

Snow does a great job capturing paw prints that go unnoticed outside of winter. When snowshoeing, watch for animal tracks. See which animals you can identify by their tracks.

Any trail in Yosemite is open for those who want to strap on snowshoes and explore. The Cross Country Ski Center and Bager Pass have maps available if you need one. A winter snowshoe vacation is fun for the whole family! Just be sure to check the weather before you go out. Weather in Yosemite can change quickly.
