How To Buy Binoculars

This page is dedicated to helping you learn how to buy binoculars. Learn about the best brands like, Nikon Monarch binoculars, Celestron binoculars and Brunton binoculars. Binoculars are great to bring to Yosemite National Park.

HOW BINOCULARS WORK

Binoculars act as a telescope for your eyes. They allow you to see far away things, close up. When buying binoculars buy the best that you can afford. You get what you pay for and a good pair will last you a lifetime. They are each marked with a formula like 7X35 or 10X42.

The first number is the magnification. For example 7X35 means that the object that you are looking at will appear 7 times closer than when viewed with the naked eye. The greater the magnification, the narrower your field of view will be.

The second number is the size of the diameter of the lens. This tells you how much light enters the binoculars. The larger this number is, the brighter your image will appear. Also, the larger this number is, the bigger the binoculars will be. And the bigger they are, the heavier they are to carry. The larger number is great for watching the stars at night and for cloudy days.

Comparing Binoculars

Another way to compare binoculars is to look at their field of view. A field of view of 360 indicates that the width of what you are looking at is 360 feet at a distance of 1000 yards away. The field of view is determined by the magnification number and the focal lengths of the what you are looking at. The higher the magnification will mean that you have less in your field of view.

BUYING BINOCULARS

There are three choices of how binoculars can focus. The first is, center focus. This means that center focus of the binoculars involves one wheel to foucs on objects. It does well focusing on objects that are both close and in the distance. A very good choice if looking for kids binoculars.

The second choice is is individual eye piece focus. This allows you to focus both the left and the right eye pieces individually. This is great for focusing on things that are medium to long distances away. This is also a perfect choice if you wear eye glasses.

The third choice is for focus free or no focus binoculars. These do not allow you to make any adjustments. What you see is what you get. These are usually the lower priced binoculars.

Best Binoculars For Seeing Yosemite

If your hiking, go for the smaller, lighter weight binoculars. If your visit will keep you on the valley floor and off of the trails, then by all means go for the the bigger and more powerful binoculars.

If your coming to see the beautiful birds and wildlife, a 7X40 or 8X35 is a great choice. If your looking to watch the mountain climber scale the granite walls get a set that have the magnifaction of 8 times or higher. If you are interested in watching the stars and planets at night the best binoculars for astronomy are 7X50 to 9X63.

For an all around good pair of binoculars a 7X35 or 8X40 will be perfect for most of us. 8X40 is considered to be a nice high powered binocular.

Now that you know how to buy binoculars, below I have listed some of the best choices available to you.
