Hamburger Stew
Ingredients:
1/4 pound of ground beef
1 Large onion
4 Large carrots
2 Large potatoes
3 Ribs of celery
1 Cup of boiling water
2 Beef bouillon cubes
2 Bay leaves
1/4 Teaspoon of dried thyme
A dash of salt and pepper
1/4 cup of dry red wine or 1/4 cup of tomato juice
2 Tablespoons of flour
Cut up your onions, potatoes and celery into thin slices. Shape your ground beef into small meatballs and brown them in a skillet. After the ground beef is browned, add the onion and cook for about 1-2 minutes. Add the boiling water and bouillon and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add the bay leaves, dried thyme, salt and pepper. Cook over the campfire for about 15 minutes.
In a cup mix the dry red wine (or tomato juice) and the flour. Stir until all the lumps are out. Add it to your stew and cook for about 5 minutes.
Serve with some bread and you have a hearty, yummy meal!
Helpful Hint: When you are at home getting ready for camping, in a ziplock bag mix the salt, pepper, bay leaves and thyme toghether. Then just bring the ziplock bag with you instead of all the containers.
