Guadalupe Mountains National Park

The Guadalupe Mountains National Park is one of two US National Parks in Texas. The two Texas National Parks are Big Bend National Park and the Guadalupe Mountains NP. A pristine fossilized limestone reef waiting to be explored.

Located in Pine Spring, Texas, it only 42 miles to Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico.

This US National Park has more to it than what first meets the eye. Digging deep and taking the time to explore the details of this National Park will bring you great joy.

The area here used to be under the ocean. That's right. 265 million years ago this was an underwater marine reef. Buried under sediments and sea salt the reef was found when the water evaporated millions of years later.

Today the area is regularly visited by scientists and geologists from around the world. And for those of us who just like to travel, there is some great hiking, backpacking, fishing and camping to be done here. This is also a great place to bring your camera and do some photography. Because of the dark skies, stargazing is a perfect night time activity.

Four of Texas's highest mountain peaks are here in Guadalupe National Park. Guadalupe Peak is the highest peak of them all. The summit is 8,749 feet tall. If you hike to the top, you will have a 360 degree view of more than 100 miles from all directions.

In addition to the great mountain views here, there are deep canyons, a natural spring, a natural pond and more than 80 miles of hiking trails. Pick a hike that is easy, strenuous or somewhere in between.
