Fun Affordable Family Vacations In Yosemite I have been coming to Yosemite for 45 years now. It is one of the most fun affordable family vacations that you can do! You can do several things in Yosemite National Park for free. Such as, hike a waterfall, climb on rocks (trust me the kids can do this for hours!), climb on fallen trees, ride the shuttle bus throughout the valley floor, shop in the shops, go through the Indian Museum, casually walk through the meadows, watch the people float down the Merced River, lay on the sandy beach (yes, there is a sandy beach here), watch the deer in the meadows (they are almost always around), bird watch, feed the squirrels (you didn't hear that from me), look out from Glacier Point (there is a 1/2 day, easily), drive (or walk) through the big trees, walk through the old Pioneer Village and talk with the locals or walk around the valley and take pictures. The older that I get the more that I like to sit on a chair or find a log and look up at the massive granite cliffs with my binoculars and watch the rock climbers. Whew! That's a lot to do for FREE! Then for a small amount of money, you can rent and ride bikes, raft the Merced River, horseback ride, take the green dragon tram tour, have a very nice meal at the Ahwahnee Hotel by a well known chef, play a round of golf in front of the Wawona Hotel, ski in the winter months at nearby Badger Pass, Ice Skate at Curry Village (in the winter), drive one hour to the Sugar Pine Railroad and ride on the logger steam train or drive one hour and hit the beautiful Chuckchansi Casino. Yes, Yosemite National Park is the perfect fun affordable family vacation. Yosemite is the crown jewel of all of the US National Parks. There is something here for everyone. Young or old and all of us in between. Spring, summer, fall and winter...this California National Park has something to offer year around.
