Bear Canisters

Get your bear canisters here. A fed bear is a dead bear...so do your part and not let them get to your food. If you are going to be spending the night out in a tent, then your food needs to stored properly.

California's Yosemite National Park and the state of Alaska have the largest bear populations. In these places you are required to keep you food out of reach of any bear. So if you are backpacking anywhere that has bears, please use a canister. They also do a great job of keeping other animals like squirrels, raccoons and deer out of your food as well.

In US National Parks it is illegal not to use a canister to store your food. Putting your food in a bag and stringing it between two trees does not work in US National Parks.

The purpose of a canister is simply to keep the bears from getting to your food. The extra space that it takes up in or on your backpack is worth it. Most canisters can be tied onto the outside of you pack.

If you are staying in a Yosemite campground, there are bear lockers at every campsite. You just need to bring your own lock. But if you are backpacking and not staying at designated campgrounds, you will be needing some animal proof canisters to store your food.

If you are wondering if bear resistant canisters work...the answer is YES!
