Yosemite-Train at Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad!

All aboard the Yosemite-Train! 50,000 people a year ride the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad train! This is an authentic steam powered locomotive that is fun for the entire family to ride!

If you are entering from the South Gate (Highway 41) into Yosemite National Park, you will come upon this great locomotive train ride! It is located two miles before the gate. One hour from Fresno, California. 12 miles North Of Oakhurst, California.

This was a working lumber train from 1899 to 1931. Five Shay locomotives moved lumber that was taken from the nearby area and hauled it to the mill via the train tracks. But today, it is a restored shay locomative that is ready to carry its visitors! The 84 ton Shay Locomotive was made in 1931. It is the largest one ever built. It goes 15 miles per hour.

Ride on the Logger Steam Train or a "Jenny" railcar as you are taken on a four mile round trip adventure throughout the mountains. On your ride, the steam will fill the mountain air and the whistle will blow and your children will smile from ear to ear! The whistle can be heard up to 10 miles away! Half way through the ride you are offered the opportunity to get off the train and walk around. There is a nearby stream and a great pinic area to explore! Riding the train takes about one hour.

There is a gift shop, book store and an area to do some panning for gold! There is also a museum and a sandwich shop to grab a bite to eat. Railroads and their trains are a big part of America's history. Stopping here on the way to Yosemite National Park is a way to journey back in time.

In the spring and fall they offer moonlight rides on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Special music, BBQ dinner and an evening filled with stories is great for the young and the old.

The Yosemite-Train at Sugar Pine Railroad train operates from March to October. It closes during the winter of months of November through February. During the months it is open the train runs from 9:30am - 3:30pm. Check their website for exact scheduling and pricing. Click here to visit their website.
