If you would like to sleep in the wilderness of Yosemite National Forest, then you need a permit. There is over 1,100 square miles for to choose where to pitch your tent! Remember that what you pack in you need to pack out. Please be aware of Bear safety before you go. Bear proof lockers to hold your food are only available in designated areas of Little Yosemite Valley and the surrounding area. I recommend that you carry canisters because bear lockers may be full when a lot of people are visiting Yosemite. Food lockers are for everyone to use. Personal locks are not allowed and will be cut off if found.
Here is an interesting fact: There are 212 miles of John Muir Hiking Trails here. It took 20 years for the Park Service and the Sierra Club officials to complete the trails. These trails are the main footpath to all the peaks and waterfalls through the high country.
